Original mixed media painting on 22 by 30 inch cradled wood panel.   This painting was part of Xizhou's 2024 solo exhibit at Garver Feed Mill Xie starts each painting with watercolor/ink underlayer, incorporating traditional Chinese painting principles to build the foundation. Then she layers acrylic paints, pastels, and other western mediums. This process mirrors her experience as a first generation immigrant where inner conflicts arise from opposing values and her self identity is challenged. Through this series, Xie documents her transformation while creating inner harmony.
