This painting was part of Xizhou’s first ever solo museum exhibit at Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, WI.

Xie starts each painting with watercolor/ink underlayer, incorporating traditional Chinese painting principles to build the foundation. Then she layers acrylic paints, pastels, and other western mediums. This process mirrors her experience as a first generation immigrant where inner conflicts arise from opposing values and her self identity is challenged. Through this series, Xie documents her transformation while creating inner harmony.
